capstone ideas

Ok so for my capstone I've got the story/mythos I want to use so my three ideas are going to be on how to actually display this to the big ole world.

1. (yeah I like number points) Write a graphic novel of the opening of the story, probably would be too long since it would take an ungodly amount of pages but still it is a thought. graphic novels are awesome no more inspirations needed

2. make the introductions area and allow people to interactively play the beginning of the story, again the beginning of the story is huge so odds of me getting even to the second out of four characters would be an issue and the sheer size of the area Nirana (first of the four characters) traverses at the beginning is ridiculous to do in udk…. was toying with udk and though hmm this would be awesome to use as away to do capstone… udk then crashed and I was like omg but still awesome to do capstone with minus the crashes.

3. Do a historical piece from the mythos preferably a back-story piece on one of the four character. actually now that I think about it that would be perfect use udk to make a campaign styled mission reliving serenity's last operation. Would be able to use the thing as a multiplayer map as well! Inspiration for this would probably be the opening of Skyrim and toying around with udk and going BRILLIANT this will work

If you plan on doing the graphic novel, you might want to be in my group. Can't really say much more because you didn't say anything more about it.

  2. You have some good ideas here so I wanted to comment. I think you should choose what you would have the most fun with and not try to do more than what you absolutely can. That is don't try to make both a novel,a udk level, and a bunch of concept art. If you want to do a novel, do stuff only for the novel. If UDK, then focus on level building and not as much as an insane amount of concept. Now if you pair with someone who can pick up the UDK/Maya Modeling weight who can do the stuff for your concepts you draw together as their part of the capstone, then it will work out. Try to have a clear focus and not be the whole game development team

  3. I agree w Matt, you have a lot of ideas, but only a short amount of time. Maybe focus on one character and come up whit a comic that supports your graphic novel. idk, just a thought.

  4. Cool, our project types sound kinda similar. I think the first 2 ideas go really well together as sort a transmedia. You could even have the playable intro, then a transition to the comic, which you could also put up on the computer like a webcomic. I'm confused with the last thing you mentioned. I don't know these characters yet so I'm not invested in them, but a simple, easy game-like aspect can help lead players into a deeper story.

  5. Jessica Faux - History is so fun to learn on a test or in a game. Just keep an eye out for inaccuracies. It's all too easy to accidentally make something up or get some bad info.

  6. Considering how you've been telling me about these stories for about 2 or so years now, and your in a similar boat to me, I want to work with you on it. In the groups and such.
